Education

1969-1972 B.Sc(Hons) in Applied Mathematics at Adelaide University.

Supervised in Honours year by Prof. E.O.Tuck. Undertook a wide variety of courses in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Mathematical Physics. Main area of interest was fluid mechanics.

1973-1976 Ph.D. at Trinity College, Cambridge.

In the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and specialised in fluid mechanics. Awarded J.T.Knight prize in 1975. Supervised by Prof. Sir James Lighthill, FRS and Dr. T.J.Pedley, (now Prof T.J.Pedley, FRS). Thesis entitled `Bio-Fluid Dynamics of Bifurcations.' External examiner Prof. J.T.Stuart, FRS.

Career

1976-1979 Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering Science, Oxford
Worked in a Medical Engineering Group directed by Dr. B.J.Bellhouse. My contribution was in computational and experimental fluid mechanics
1977 Visiting Lecturer at Adelaide University
1979-1981 Research Lecturer at Christ Church, Oxford
