This work has been in collaboration with Abigail Wacher (formerly Oxford) and Keith Miller (Berkeley). Abigail extended Keith's work by developing an idea he described some time ago, that of string gradient weighted moving finite elements. The string formulation, while not appearing to have great computational advantages over Keith's original gradient weighted method, can be easily implemented in very general circumstances. See
