Digital-Media Workshops

As part of SJCtv's commitment to working with the university community, we're designing a series of workshops with the specific intention of improving your digital video skills. Open to anyone, we intend to offer a complete course in Michaelmas term, starting with basic camera skills, and ending up with editing, post-production and methods to deliver your content.

We'll start at the very beginning, but will quickly progress to using exciting techniques and industry standard equipment. That said, we want to help you get the most out of your own equipment, and will offer demonstrations on lower end products too. As well as hands on demonstrations, SJCtv officers will be on hand to answer any questions you might have, tailoring the sessions to make them as relevant as possible to your needs.

If you're keen to get involved with the world of digital video, or fancy having a go at something new, it'd be great to see you there. As there will be a practical element to these workshops, unfortunately, we'll be limiting numbers to about 10 people per session. To make up for this, we should be running each session at least twice during term!

UPDATE (09.10.07): Sessions have now been finalised and are all fully booked. Details follow below. We will advertise any additional places or sessions on this page, should they become available. Alternatively, join our mailing list and let us get in touch with you.

Those attending a session may make their way to the St John's College Graves Room directly for a prompt 7PM start. Alternatively, meet at the lodge at 6.55PM and we'll show you the way. Each session is intended to run for a maximum of 2 hours.

UPDATE (29.10.07): "Introduction to Non-Linear Editing" has been rescheduled back to Tuesday 5th Week. Please note that as this session will take place in an alternative venue (28 Museum Road), we're advising meeting at the St Johns lodge.

SJCtv Presents: Roadmap for 2007-2008

Core to SJCtv's forward-thinking attitude is a clear vision of our planning and strategy. Because we also believe in operating transparently, here we intend to outline some of the key goals and decisions facing us in the coming year, with the intention of driving discussion forward.

Michaelmas will see fresh equipment purchases, with new sound and lighting hardware adding value to our hire and production services packages. This is to be the first of our two main spends during the academic year. Early in the term, SJCtv intends to capitalise on the strong reputation its high quality media services have built, by offering training workshops to the university community. In doing this we hope to foster new interest in digital video and reinforce our existing university-wide links. We shall have at least 3 general meetings during this term and during the latter of these, the prospect of entering OUFF film cuppers will be introduced.

The focus at the start of Hilary will turn to producing our film cuppers entry. We will also evaulate the success of the previous terms workshops and, depending on demand may choose to provide further sessions. At this point we shall also purchase additional microphone and camera support systems, adding them to our hire equipment pool. Hilary would also be a valuable time to assess the suitability of our current editing systems and take suitable action to ensure they continue to meet our needs.

Trinity. This term usually proves popular with colleges wishing to create 'video prospectuses' - designed to replace or compliment the traditional 'alternative prospectus' produced my many Oxford colleges. We hope to offer our services in producing more these, either directly, or through guidance and support.
